Summertime in Richmond, Virginia is always packed with plenty to do. Summer 2015 in RVA was no exception. As the season comes to end, here's what we at Black Hand Coffee have been up to.
Black Hand Coffee Co. Expansion
Early this summer, we added a secondary location in RVA's own Scott's Addition Historic District.
The new warehouse location now houses all of our roasting and wholesale distribution operations. Transferring the roaster from the cafe to its new home has freed up more room for coffee drinkers to kick back and relax at our Museum District storefront.
Coffee in the Community
Black Hand Coffee Co. partnered with nonprofits Comfort Zone Camp and I AM RVA.
Our new Campfire Blend is a specialty coffee made in support of all the great work our friends at Comfort Zone Camp do. A portion of each bag sold goes to help their organization. CZC is a nonprofit bereavement camp that transforms the lives of children who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, or primary caregiver. The Campfire Blend is a dark roast, featuring some of our favorite Sumatran and Mexican beans.
Black Hand also partnered with nonprofit group I AM RVA during the UCI Road World Championships to help store and distribute their new cycling helmets. The group is out in the community fostering enthusiasm for cycling along with promoting safety among both riders and drivers.
To coincide with the cycling races in Richmond this September, we also created our limited edition Champion's Blend coffee. The medium roast is a blend of high quality beans from farms in Central/South America, Africa, and Indonesia and it is perfect to kick off the day before a ride.
In the brewery scene, Black Hand partnered with Triple Crossing Brewing to create their Liberty or Death Bourbon Barrel Coffee Porter. The brewery also went on to place Black Hand's Nitro Cold Brew on tap for anyone looking for a delicious pick-me-up.
Visit Triple Crossing Brewing @ 113 S Foushee St, Richmond, VA 23220 to give Nitro Cold Brew a try!
Coffee Coming Soon!
Black Hand is temporarily phasing out our Costa Rican Single Serves for the cooler months and replacing them with a dark roasted Sumatran Single Serve. Our friends at Intelligent Blends have worked with us to create a 100% RECYCLABLE single serve cup that is both easy to use and eco-friendly.
For our whole bean roasts, we are bringing in a coffee this October that we are extremely excited about.
Black Hand has partnered with a cooperative of entirely female-run smallholder farms in Mexico's Sierra Madre, Chiapas region and areas of the El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve to bring in our upcoming Dia de los Muertos Coffee.
Look for more details about the coffee in the coming weeks and we will see you in the fall!
